First airboat tour in Cambodia

Two Cambodian brothers who are experienced engineers from Arey Ksat Village near Phnom Penh, had a vision to provide a safe and effective way for tourists to explore Tonle Sap Lake. Hence, they came up with a brilliant idea to modify an airboat by converting it as a tour business - Komnob Airboat Tours.

They had become the founder in Cambodia to build a Hybrid airboat, using car engine parts & equipment such as fan and fiberglass which imported from overseas. With a total estimated cost of USD 10,000.

They further shared with the source that their goal is to use the airboat to serve the tourism industry in their country by providing tours around amazing ancient temples, the Tonle Sap lake, and other potential tourist destinations.

The brothers also have charitable aspirations, as they use a percentage of their profits to help the village children in Tonle Sap’s to receive a better education by donating books and study materials.

They had since become popularized by their use in southern US’ alligator infested wetlands, swamps and marshes. They had now own three airboats, the largest carrying 25 passengers and travelling up to 100km/h. It is able to travel across various terrains, especially in low-level water and grassy areas. A wonderful eco-tourism option for the area.

The tours take three to four hours and cost between $50 to $70 per person depending on low or peak season. Prices include pick-up and drop-off from hotel in Siem Reap.
