Railway connecting to Thailand take place in March

The railway between Cambodia and Thailand will be officially connecting in March, announced by the Transport Minister - Sun Chanthol.

He further said that the tracks for both sides of the border had completed and will invite Prime Minister Hun Sen to preside over for the official ceremony. Furthermore, a cross-border transport agreement with Thailand had been negotiated and bilateral agreement will be signed later on.

The railway, named ‘western rail line’, connecting Phnom Penh and Poipet city, the border of Thailand, was completed last year. It stretches over 386 kilometers, and will soon be connected to Thailand’s Arranyapratet province.

Once the railway systems are integrated, passengers and goods will be able to travel from one country to another. This is seen as a key element in boosting trade with Thailand.

Both countries’ governments aiming at $15 million bilateral trade by 2020.
