CAMBODIA EARNS 4.92 BILLION USD FROM TOURISM LAST YEAR

Cambodia’s tourism revenue reached USD 4.92 billion in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s report.

China was the biggest source of tourists to Cambodia followed by neighboring country, Vietnam and Thailand.

Tourism plays an important sector towards the country’s economy, contributing 12.1% towards Cambodia’s gross domestic product (GDP) last year, based on the report.

The Ministry of Tourism forecast that Cambodia is likely to receive 6.45 million international tourists this year, a decrease of 2.4% due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that in order to help overcome this difficult moment, government decided to provide all kinds of tax breaks for all hotels and guesthouses in northwestern Siem Reap province for a period of four months from February to May.
