Phnom Penh municipal governor, Khuong Sreng released that the capital will construct a total of 27 overhead bridge in order to minimize risks from traffic accidents and reduce traffic congestion.
At the moment no further status on the completion duration. Sreng said he could not confirm when the 27 pedestrian overpasses will be completed as it subject to support outcome from the public.
The governor further reported that certain streets had started to widen it, underground infrastructure system is rectifying and a few overhead bridge starting to build.
He refuted comments that Cambodia facing slow development. In fact, since under Prime Minister Hun Sen reign, he had bring peace and develop the Kingdom.
Kim Pagna, country director for AIP Foundation, highlighted that the annual deaths caused by road traffic accidents almost 10 per cent in total. The need of having overhead bridge will be necessary especially for children and elderly people.
He encouraged city officials to urge people use the overhead bridge as he witnessed pedestrians resist to use it. In addition, he also hope the Government to install lighting and CCTV cameras on the overheard bridge as that will help to carry out investigation should any unexpected crimes occurred during night time. A proper checking on sidewalks & planning of the overhead bridge by Phnom Penh administration is required in order to construct it practically without further causing accidents.
