DOs AND DON'Ts FOR A TRIP TO KNONG PHSAR

Camping domestically has become the new trend for young Cambodian travelers since the pandemic outbreak restricted them from travelling out of the country. Knong Phsar is at the top of the list of eco-tourism destinations.

Amazing scenic with lush green mountains and fluffy clouds parked motionlessly over the mountain tops flooded in social media, attracting many hikers.

Knong Phsar shares three provincial boundaries; Kampong Speu, Koh Kong and Pursat. Hikers from Phnom Penh usually visit Knong Phsar via the Kampong Speu entry point as it’s the closest one to reach from the city.

Here are a few tips shared by experienced travelers:

WHAT TO BRING:
Due to cooling & humid weather during night, it is advisable to stay in waterproof camping tents.

GROUP OR SOLO?:
It is safer, cheaper and more fun if you go in a group. One tractor able to carry 10 pax.

FOOD:
There isn’t any food vendors on the top of the mountain as there are no inhabitants there. It is advisable to prepare sufficient food & beverages. Alternatively, you may get those villagers who live in the community below to make some food before heading up, however, you should not expect too much.

ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO TAKE:
The weather is hot during the day but cold in the early morning & night time. Due to extreme weather changes throughout the day, suggest to bring along a small first aid kit including Paracetamol, vitamin C, insect repellant, pills for diarrhea, plasters etc. Keep it simple yet useful.

HOW MUCH YOU SHOULD TAKE:
The ideal weight to carry up should be less than 10 kg.

CLOTHING:
Jeans are not advisable. Practically, should be sports attire. Don’t forget to bring along a long sleeved shirt or windbreaker to keep you warm. Additionally, you should bring a raincoat in case raining season.

DON’T OVEREAT:
You will feel lethargic and difficulty to hike if eat too much. Avoid indigestive foods that might make your stomach feel uneasy or any food might cause diarrhea as there is any washroom available on top of the mountain; only a small stream. Suggest trekkers to eat less and drink more water in order to keep body hydrate.

A GUIDE IS A MUST:
There are many wondrous sites that you will want to check it out. Hence it will be good to have a guide to direct you.

BE ADVENTUROUS:
To catch the breathtaking sunrise in the morning, be prepared to wake up by 4am. It takes at least two hours to reach the spot. You will be mesmerized by the surrounding flora and fauna. However be mindful as a few species of insects, creatures or plants are poisonous. Never reach out to touch them. Always check with your experience tour guide.
