ANGELINA JOLIE CONSIDERS SETTLING IN CAMBODIA

PHNOM PENH – Angelina Jolie plans to leave Hollywood for Cambodia, a country that, she claimed, changed the course of her life. However, the plan is still in the early stages as the celebrity is seeking change years after divorcing Brad Pitt.

Angelina Jolie, post-divorce, emphasized the constraints on her freedom and the unhealthiness of Hollywood in a Dec. 5 Wall Street Journal interview. Expressing a desire for authenticity, she hinted at a potential move away from the glitz of the film industry.

Despite global stardom, Jolie isn't enamored with Hollywood, likely due to her childhood experiences. Her divorce from Brad Pitt, seven years ago, prompted a shift in priorities, focusing more on her children and withdrawing from the spotlight.

Details about a potential move to Cambodia remain unclear, but the country holds significance in Jolie's life. Her first visit in 2000 for "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" marked the beginning of her connection, eventually adopting a Cambodian child named Maddox in 2002.

This adoption spurred Jolie's involvement in Cambodia's welfare. In 2006, she founded the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, concentrating on environmental and wildlife protection, healthcare, and economic stability. Recognized with Cambodian citizenship in 2005, Jolie continued her humanitarian efforts, especially in demining activities and as a UNHCR goodwill ambassador.

Her affinity for Cambodia deepened with projects like "First They Killed My Father" in 2017, highlighting the Khmer Rouge Regime. In 2022, Jolie launched the Women For Bee Project in Samlout district, aiming to empower locals through beekeeping. Additionally, she transformed an area from illegal wildlife hunting to a protected zone in 2003.

Reflecting on her transformative experiences in Cambodia, Jolie acknowledged its impact on her perspective, revealing gaps in her historical education and fostering humility.
