The government spokesperson, Pen Bona, anticipates a smooth and active 2024, highlighting Prime Minister Hun Manet's leadership in maintaining stability and progress toward development goals. Bona commended the efficient performance of newly appointed ministers since Manet assumed office in August, emphasizing the swift implementation of the government's Pentagonal Strategy.
The government has already initiated the six priority programs outlined in the strategy, demonstrating positive outcomes in a short period. Bona expressed confidence that the ministries, having established internal rules and policies, are well-prepared for a more active and growth-oriented 2024.
Chey Tech, an independent socio-economic analyst, concurred with Bona's assessment, acknowledging Cambodia's stability, governance reforms, and the inauguration of the six priority areas. He highlighted the country's economic growth in 2023 and projected a 6.6% growth for 2024, driven by contributions from tourism, garment, agriculture, and industrial sectors.
However, Tech warned of potential challenges such as inflation, global pandemics, economic downturns, and slow recovery in tourism and real estate. To address these issues, he recommended the government focus on economic diversity, improve infrastructure, promote competition, enhance the investment environment, and advance socio-economic digitalization.
