CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVICE FOR THE PUBLIC 

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus constitutes a Public-Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

Cambodian authorities on alert for Novel Coronavirus. Previously, one suspected case reported but the Chinese citizen had recovered and discharged. Till date no further case reported. 

We have been vigilantly monitoring the situation, including updates from WHO and the local authorities. The well-being and safety of our team members, guests and residents remain top priority. Please rest assured that all necessary measures are in place and had implemented in accordance with guidelines from the health authorities.

CAMBODIA REAL ESTATE MARKET 'STABLE' FOR 2020

The Kingdom’ is predicted to continue healthy this year. According to real estate expert, market shows signs of resiliency this year despite some risks and headwinds. The market appears to be maturing and developing in a positive direction.

Affordable residential development, hospitality and higher quality commercial developments will likely be the focus for 2020.

According to CBRE’s Third-Quarter 2019 Phnom Penh Market Update, nine new off-plan condominium launches, accounting for a combination of 5,140 units.

CAUTIONS OPTIMISM FOR THE YEAR 

In ushering first day of the new year, Cambodia is calling for concrete reforms. The external risks especially stemming from the revocation of the Everything But Arms (EBA) trade deal are looming larger. This year presents not only challenges and risks but also opportunities.

Most important international event for Cambodia this year will be convening of the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), with participation of more than 50 countries. The Kingdom will be using this important platform to further strengthen an effective multilateral system as well as a rules-based international order.

AWAITING A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP

Several cabinet ministers in Cambodia have been serving the country for 27 years. 

Prime Minister Hun Sen took the bold step by appointing young ministers after the general election in 2013. The young ministers were appointed in the ministry of education, environment, economy and finance, and a few other state agencies such as the general department of taxation.

Deep reforms have been introduced. However, the outcomes and impacts remain limited as some underperforming ministers who were publicly chastised by the premier in the past, were subsequently moved from one ministry to another or from one department to another.


2021 ASEAN TOURISM FORUM (ATF) HOST CAMBODIA REVEALS NEXT WAE OF TOURISM INITIATIVES

Cambodia will be hosting a regional tourism forum in January 2021, which will be scheduling from Jan 17 to 23 in Phnom Penh.

The forum will include an exhibition on tourism products and services, technical meetings of Asean tourism officials, Asean tourism ministerial meetings and art performances. It will include three invited nations: China, South Korea and Japan.

Cambodia, through the ATF, will be able to attract more investors and to showcase potential products and services to attract more foreign visitors to Cambodia.

CHINESE FIRMS TO BUILD NEW PHNOM PENH AIRPORT

Three Chinese-owned enterprises have been chosen to build the new airport that will service the Cambodian capital, according to the source reported.

Cambodia Airport Investment Co Ltd said five companies had entered the bidding process.

Yee Con Long, a member of the project steering committee of Cambodia Airport Investment, released that the process of designing the airport is 60 per cent complete. Construction will be divided into three phases, with the first scheduled to be completed this year.

JACK MA’S TIPS ON EDUCATION

Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, may be the richest man in China, but he had stepped back from his e-commerce empire last year by returning to his roots as a teacher.

His formula, however, is not to focus on curriculum or accountability, but on students’ capacity to love. He said, “If you want to be successful, you should have very high EQ, a way to get on with people. If you do not want to lose quickly, you should have good IQ, but if you want to be respected, you should have LQ, the quotient of love. The brain will be replaced by machines, but machines can never replace your heart.”

 

Radical approach

Ma’s key message was spotted on: we’ve spent a lot of effort on how we feed people, that is, the education they receive, but not enough on what we feed them.
