Sea Festival attracts 180,000 visitors
Koh Kong welcomed 180,000 visitors celebrating Sea Festival this year, consider the largest crowd compare to the last hosted event in 2014. This year, the slogan is ‘Beautiful Bay, Happy Citizen’ which emphasis on ecotourism and other forms of sustainable tourism.
Cambodian Sea festival is a celebration of Cambodia’s coastline, as Prime Minister Hun Sen says, Cambodia has been recognized as the most beautiful bays in the world.
Koh Kong tourism department director Bun Beav commented that Koh Kong unlike Preah Sihanouk province. The price of products and hotel and guesthouse rooms are under control. The authority will not allow skyrocket pricing.
The event represents a coordinated effort from all provinces in the country, with delegations, traders and investors arriving from every corner of Cambodia. It gives companies the opportunity to showcase their products and achievements, while allowing certain institutions to conduct important studies.
Mr Hun Sen announced that Koh Kong will become top ranking province in the country in terms of foreign tourist arrivals once the expansion of airport in Kiri Sakor concludes and Dara Sakor resort. Besides, the government is now working on to expand National Road 48 to four lanes and improving the roads to Pursat and Battambang.
According to source, Koh Kong homes three hydro-power dams and special economic zones. The downtown of Koh Kong have many activities that visitors able to enjoy, including sports, concerts and shopping. However, for those who wish to explore further, may consider travel to Thailand from here.
The Sea Festival is held on a rotating basis on one of Cambodia’s four coastal provinces.
Tourism Minister Thong Khon reported that Koh Kong will welcome about 90,000 international tourists and 600,000 domestic tourists by end of the year.
