STUDENT ARCHITECTS INNOVATE TO BUILD GREEN 

Abundant in the lakes, rivers and streams surrounding Phnom Penh, water hyacinths are easily collected, and often used for compost or even to weave into hammocks.

A group of third-year architecture students from Paragon University have discovered a modern, sustainable construction material that can replace floor, ceiling tiles and imported plaster decorative panels, all stem from the humble water hyacinth.

CAMBODIA SETS RECORD FOR ORIGAMI HEARTS DISPLAY IN CHARITY EFFORT

Cambodia breaks world record by folding 3,917,805 origami-style paper hearts after officials from the Guinness Book of World Records counted them up and declared the new record on April 11 at Angkor Wat.

Hun Many, a senior lawmaker and head of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), which organised the event, said Cambodia’s efforts had set a new record this year were undertaken to show the love and unity of the nation.

CAMBODIA AMONG THREE MOST ROBUST RCEP ECONOMIES THIS YEAR, SAYS IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Cambodia to be among the best-performing economies in East Asia and the Pacific this year aside Philippines and Vietnam.

In its annual World Economic Outlook released in Washington, IMF said the Philippine economy was forecast to expand 6.0 percent – the fastest pace among the 15 members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement.

INT'L NON-GOLD SALES HIT $20B LAST YEAR, US STILL TOP BUYER

The US absorbed more than 44 per cent of Cambodia’s over-USD 20-billion total non-gold exports in 2022, remain the largest market destination, ahead of EU, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The ministry’s 2022 Socio-Economic Trends report indicates that non-gold exports USD 20.3441 billion last year, up 16.7 per cent from the 2021 figure – given as USD 17.440 billion in the previous edition of the report – buoyed by increases in products such as textile-related items, bicycles and milled rice.
