CAMBODIA SEEKS TO BE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTIC HUB IN ASEAN

Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sun Chanthol announced that Cambodia is working on several fronts to modernize its transport infrastructure and services, concentrating on opening new international gates to relieve and balance traffic congestion at its borders. The Kingdom aim to transform into a logistics hub for the ASEAN region.

WORLD BANKS FORECASTS POSITIVE ECONOMIC OUTLOOK FOR CAMBODIA 

The World Bank East Asia and Pacific Economic Update October 2020, forecast Cambodia economy will contract 2 percent this year. 

It mentioned that Cambodia’s unfavorable growth outlook alongside disruptions to jobs and lower household incomes means poverty is likely to increase. The Kingdom’s economy and its key growth drivers – namely construction, tourism and merchandise exports – continue to be severely affected by the global crisis unleashed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

WILL PANDEMIC PUSH KINGDOM TO EMBRACE CASHLESS PAYMENTS MORE?  

With concern about the possible spread of the potentially deadly COVID-19 may survive for days on banknotes, there are more calls for a cashless society.
 

A spokesperson at World Health Organization (WHO) suggested that customers should wash their hands after touching notes due to the fear of getting infection from it.
 

A US door-to-door delivery service recently had stopped accepting cash. A nonprofit bookstore, Open Books in Chicago, advice customer not to use cash. The Central Bank in South Korea burned and replaced all banknote while Poland quarantined it for two weeks.
